life is for dreaming

Today’s journal entry is more of a recent one. 3 months recent actually. This one I coincidentally titled “ENTRY NUMBER 2.” So it’s only fitting that this had to be used for my second blog post. Written with intention and made to be seen, here is ENTRY NUMBER 2.

Like everyone else, I’m sure you have TONS of hopes, dreams, goals, and aspirations. Some are attainable and some are (kind of) out of reach - like getting Justin Bieber to fall in love with you.

Queue 9-year-old Mere:

Either way, they’re all dreams. Dreams aren’t meant to stay living in our heads. They're meant to make their way out into the world and form into our realities (unless your dream is to marry Justin Bieber, sorry Mere that one is dead). BUT I still have other dreams don’t worry that wasn’t my only one.

I’ve learned in the past couple of years that we’re meant to work towards something bigger AND MORE MEANINGFUL than just something to check all the boxes, pay the bills and satisfy the world. Someone I owe a lot of my inspiration to is my dear friend Lexi. She has the biggest, brightest, most wonderful dreams out there and I’m lucky enough to watch her make those dreams a reality. She’s pushed me to have big dreams. She’s led me to believe that dreams aren’t meant to just be dreams.

For reference, this is my Lexi (hi Lexi I miss you)

Anyways, back to the point. I was in the shower (where I have most of my realizations) and I stood there and prayed. I prayed to God feeling lost, discouraged, and dismissed. Why does everyone else have such amazing goals? How is everyone else working so courageously towards their goals?? Why aren't they afraid?? How is it working out for THEM and not for me?? You know, the classic, monthly dramatic pity party.

After a couple of minutes of self-destruction and heavy prayer, I for the first time in my life, heard God say,

“Meredith, you’ve never told me your dreams. I know I already know your heart but I’ve never actually heard you TELL ME what’s on your heart.”

There I stood, shampoo running down my face in awe because, in the midst of a dramatic breakdown, God of course was right again. It was true. I’ve never told God what my dreams are. I just ASSUMED he already knew - which he does.

Just because God already knows everything on your heart doesn't mean he doesn't want to hear it from you too. He wants to hear your voice. He wants that relationship with you. He may already know everything you're about to say but that’s the beauty of it - he’s still going to listen and wow will he be so thrilled to hear from you. As I do with my friends, I tell God all about my day. My highs, my lows, my worries - everything but my dreams. He’s just waiting for me to come to him and tell him about my dreams. He wants to hear it from me.

Guys. At the end of the day, God already has everything planned out. He knows when, where, and how your heart's desires are going to come about. He’s got it all figured out. He wants you to be confident in Him. He doesn’t want you to stand in the shower and have a breakdown because Justin Bieber is married to someone who isn’t you. In fact, He’s probably laughing at you while you dramatically sing That Should Be Me into the shampoo bottle.

At the end of the day, He wants a real relationship with you. He wants to hear about your day, your feelings, your latest crush, and your biggest WILDEST dreams. He already knows everything about you. He knows what you were made to do. There was a reason for you before there was even a you. God created you with intention. He didn’t miss a detail.

Things start to change when you put all your trust in Jesus. Next time you pray, tell him about the most recent episode of Gilmore Girls you watched, tell him about how pretty the sunset looked last night, tell him about the dreams planted in your heart, and watch him move. There’s no such thing as a dream too big. (Unless that dream is to marry Justin Bieber. You might need to let that one go.)
